Contract Solar Electrical Engineer and Field Manager (Haiti Based)

The Company

10Power is a startup social enterprise providing renewable energy access internationally to communities that lack electricity today. Working with local partners, 10Power provides project development and finance for high-impact commercial and industrial solar projects. Our mission is to bring sustainable modernization and regenerative growth to the close to 1 billion human beings who do not have access to electricity today. We see renewable energy as the keystone to support access to clean water, gender empowerment, internet technology, education and ecosystem restoration – our theory of Fourth World Development.

Working with Haitian partners, 10Power has installed solar on water purification centers, constructed a solar water desalination plant and provided feasibility studies and project implementation for commercial-scale solar and energy storage projects as well as water purification facilities.

10Power has offices in Port Au Prince, Haiti and San Francisco, California, USA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Site assessments
  • Data logger installation
  • Code compliance
  • Energy efficiency audits (ASHRAE 1,2,3)
  • Engineering analysis
  • System sizing, design, diagrams
  • BOM creation
  • Generating reports
  • Vendor / supplier research
  • Lead the procurement process when 10Power is the main procurement agent, or advise and manage the process when being conducted by a third party
  • Vet and manage subcontractors
  • Provide sound, consistent, and timely technical oversight
    • Conduct technical reviews of design work conducted by EPCs
    • Initiate external design review from the manufacturer whenever necessary
    • Approve design changes as projects develop
    • Support with technical sections of grant proposals and other funding communications
  • Structure and oversee the work of more junior team members
    • Help to interview and provide input on intern hiring
    • Provide guidance to technical interns when relevant
  • Coordinate and oversee project installation and management
    • Forecast and track time to complete project and track installation hours
    • Monitor and direct the progress in the construction site ensuring that the construction work is completed in accordance with guidelines
    • Manage and ensure that all safety precautions are adhered to by the construction workers
  • Oversee O&M

Required Qualifications

    • Proficiency in English
    • Educational & Professional
      • A graduate degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering
      • 5+ years field experience implementing NEC or Canadian Electric Code
      • 5+ years of cumulative work experience in the renewable energy industry
      • Excellent work references
    • Technical:
      • Advanced understanding of solar energy systems
      • Advanced skills with solar software (Helioscope, HOMER) and design software (Autocad Electric and Visio)
      • Advanced financial knowledge of operations and maintenance for solar system equipment
      • Familiarity with ASHRAE
      • Knowledge of IEEE, UL, IEC
      • Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel (V-Lookups, Pivot Tables, etc.)
  • Ability to perform the key responsibilities described above

Desired Qualifications

  • Proficiency in French or Haitian Kreyol
  • Renewable energy experience in Haiti
  • NABCEP Certified
