Karla Brollier is of the Yidateni Na’ Tribe of the Ahtna Athabaskan peoples, Indigenous from the arctic region of Alaska. She has worked in the climate space her entire career and is a mission driven operator turned climate investor with a core focus on climate stabilization through climate economics and climate financing.
Karla is currently the Director for Patagonia’s new investment and philanthropy fund, the Home Planet Fund – and also serves as the Principal at Velveteen Ventures, focusing on climate investments and companies. She is the first Native woman fund leader.
Karla has dedicated her career to stabilizing the climate by bridging the gap between different sectors, particularly the financial sector, to minimize risk and impacts while fostering sustainable, ecologically and socially responsible solutions. With years of experience in building and running funds and companies, she has worked in philanthropy, NGO, policy and investing spaces with a through line of addressing climate change and social issues that approaches it from a variety of angles. Her deep understanding of the intersection of climate, environmental, and social impact has allowed her to develop innovative solutions to complex problems, making a meaningful impact on the climate, economic, and ecological crisis.
Karla’s past roles include working with the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, as an executive for the former Vice President Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project, founder of multiple climate-focused companies and multiple climate-focused funds. She has an MBA and extensive investment experience. With a strong entrepreneurial spirit, operator experience and extensive knowledge in climate and economic issues, as well as Indigenous rights – Karla brings a unique, systems-thinking and ROI approach to her work.
